BIO

Sally Deering is an award-wrinning librettist whose musical “Dr. Sex”
earned seven Joseph Jefferson Awards in Chicago and went on to Off-Broadway at the Peter Norton Theatre in New York City. Her new play WHEN THERE ARE NINE opens at The Broadway Theater at Pride Arts Center in Chicago on Feb. 14, 2024.

Sally has written and directed ten short films including IMPASSE which won Best Screenplay Comedy at the 2019 NYC Downtown Short Film Festival. In 2021, her film AUNT SADIE LOVED A LADY was named Audience Favorite at the Barrymore Film Center's Short Film Festival and the Palm Springs Int'l Film Festival.

Sally's play SIT ON MY LAP was presented at STAGEFest 2013 at the famous movie palace the Loew's Jersey City. In October 2013, her play FEEDING THE KITTY was presented at the Gene Feankel Theatre in NYC. Her play CHEWING MOTHER'S BONES was produced first at the Penguin Rep in Stony Point, NY – directed by Joe Brancato – and again by the Kismet Theatre of Hoboken. The musicals she co-wrote, BOMBS AWAY (renamed BROADWAY ROADKILL in 2012) played Mary's Attic in Chicago and ANIMAL OF THE YEAR played The Vital Theater Off-Off Broadway and in Chicago at the Bailiwick Rep.
