Ryan is a member of the Screen Actor's Guild (SAG) and Actor's Equity Association (AEA). He has enjoyed playing such roles as Hamlet in Hamlet, Happy in Death of a Salesman, Jimmy in Look Back in Anger, Berowne in Love's Labour's Lost, Mark Antony in Julius Caesar, Hal in Proof, Edgar in King Lear, and Bottom in Midsummer Night's Dream.
He has acted in productions such as the The Winter's Tale (Virginia Shakespeare Festival), A Streetcar Named Desire (Deaf West Theatre Company), Proof, The Laramie Project, Death of a Salesman, and Blue/Orange (all at Artists Repertory Theatre), A Glass Menagerie and Old Wicked Songs (Rubicon Theatre Company), Love's Labour's Lost and Henry V (Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival), Winter's Tale and The Threepenny Opera (A Noise Within), Othello, Coriolanus, and Love's Labour's Lost (Illinois Shakespeare Festival), King Lear (Sierra Repertory Theatre), Side Man (Ensemble Theatre Company), and Marat/Sade, A Bright Room Called Day, and The Balcony (Theatre of NOTE).
