Drama Desk Awards to Be Announced by Author and Activist George Takei
The nominations for the 66th Annual Drama Desk Awards will be announced by actor, author, civil rights activist and influencer, George Takei, on Monday, May 16, with the top four categories announced live on Spectrum News NY1 at 4 p.m. ET. Takei will join NY1 anchor Ruschell Boone and “On Stage” host Frank DiLella to announce the nominations for Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Play, Outstanding Revival of a Musical and Outstanding Revival of a Play. Following the live announcement, the complete list of Drama Desk Awards nominations will be available on dramadeskawards.com.
Arthur Ashe Institute For Urban Health Announces 2019 Honorees For 25th Annual Black Tie & Sneakers Sports Ball
Dr. Marilyn A. Fraser, CEO of the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health (AAIUH), announced today the hosts and honorees for SportsBall 2019, the 25th Annual Black Tie & Sneakers Gala, to take place on Wednesday, October 2nd at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City. Renowned guests representing sports, philanthropy, business, entertainment, and medicine will gather to celebrate the legacy of tennis champion and humanitarian Arthur Ashe. The event benefits the ongoing community health education programs and research initiatives of the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health.

NY1 news anchors celebrated both Halloween and Tony Award-winning composer Andrew Lloyd Webber last night at annual The Village Halloween Parade. The five anchors dressed as characters from all three of Lloyd Webber's currently running musicals for their live coverage of the annual event. Stephanie Simon was transformed into Bombalurina from CATS, Ruschell Boone and Roger Clark rocked at as the pint-sized rockers in School of Rock - The Musical, and Pat Kiernan and Jamie Stelter enchanted as Phantom and Christine from The Phantom of the Opera.

The event was taped in front of a sold-out audience on Monday, January 11, with Frank's very special guest Jonathan Groff, who is currently starring on Broadway as King George in the smash hit HAMILTON.
