The Autorino Center will host the internationally renowned Afro-Cuban All Stars on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hoffman Auditorium, Bruyette Athenaeum. This Cuban big band, featured in the Academy Award-winning documentary Buena Vista Social Club, brings the sizzling sounds of Havana to the Hartford area for the first time ever. Led by the legendary Juan de Marcos Gonzalez, they perform music from the rich and soulful golden era of pre-revolutionary Cuba.

The electrifying Afro-Cuban All-Stars, under the guidance of legendary Juan de Marcos, pay tribute to Cuba's golden age of music when the band makes its debut at The Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts (The Soraya) today, January 19. Mixing the joy and melancholy for Cuba's past with the exuberant sounds of contemporary performance, the 17-piece Afro-Cuban All-Stars bring the next generation of Cuban music to life on stage. In addition, the evening will also feature The Soraya debut of the Havana-based Harold L pez-Nussa Trio, which will open the evening.

Goodman Theatre begins the new year with a new music-and-movement-filled play: Another Word for Beauty, a world premiere by Academy Award nominee Jose Rivera(The Motorcycle Diaries) inspired by an annual beauty pageant at El Buen Pastor womens prison in Colombia. Directed by Steve Cosson and featuring seven original songs by Grammy Award winner Hector Buitrago, the show was developed through a co-commission between the Goodman and Cosson's New York-based theater company The Civilians.
