Roy Barry is a trained actor, singer and dancer. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War and has acted in five original Broadway musicals as well as Regional, Stock and television. Spent three years doing a nightclub act prior to his military stint. He acted on stage with Katherine Hepburn, John Gielgud, Ralph Richardson, Alexis Smith and numerous other film and stage actors. Studied with Lee Strasberg, Warren Robertson, Peggy Feury and Jack Waltzer.
Over the years Roy began his teaching at The Actors and Directors Lab in New York City in the early 80's. He eventually would work with Warren Robertson and Shelley Winters at Warren’s studio in New York. He was the creator and director of the "Actor's Collective Ensemble" on Theatre Row in the early 80's. He began his serious writing in 2011 after years of writing comedy routines . He is a member of the "Actors Studio" Playwright Division and the Dramatist Guild of America. He has completed four plays; “The Tomb”, “No Escort Needed”, “The Ward” and “The Legion Post # .50”. Just finishing his 5th play "In the Name of Allah!" a play about democratic negligence of military justice in a foreign country, plus an autobiographical piece about growing up in the Bushwick Section of Brooklyn in the late 40's and early 50's. Roy is a standing member of the "Actors Studio" Playwrights Unit in New York City.
All plays are relative to the times we live in. Roy is a proficient comedy writer. He will be using 2017-18 to market his plays to various theaters, colleges and regional Theater's. Since 1987 Roy has resided in Somerville, New Jersey with his wife Danielle, an actress/teacher. She is Roy’s foundation. Without her nothing would be done. They have two daughters, Meredith and Millicent.
