Just A Walk In The Park? Searingly Funny Black Comedy CLYBOURNE PARK Is Next Up At Dezart Performs

On the heels of 'Casa Valentina,' its enormously successful first production of the season, Dezart Performs will present the uproariously funny black comedy, Clybourne Park, a play written as a spin-off to Lorraine Hansberry's 1959 classic play A Raisin in the Sun which focuses on cultural and racial issues in a Chicago community. As described by The Washington Post during the 2011-12 season of the Seattle Repertory production, the play 'applies a modern twist to the issues of race and housing and aspirations for a better life….and is one of its feistiest, funniest evenings in years.' Clybourne Park has received multiple prestigious awards including the 2012 Tony Award for Best Play and the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
BWW Reviews: La Jolla Playhouse parks THE CAR PLAYS in San Diego

Produced by L.A. troupe Moving Arts from a concept by Paul Stein, THE CAR PLAYS is seriously one of the most thrilling theater experiences you will ever witness--or rather, get stuck in (and in a good way). A unique, site-specific theatrical offering that truly lives up to the idea of riveting, in-your-face theater, this intriguingly-conceived experiment is at times moving and at times unnerving and uncomfortable. Due to popular demand, the series has been extended through March 11 at the La Jolla Playhouse.
Photo Exclusive: STREEP TEASE at Joe's Pub

The audience came to a stand still when stage actor Bryan Donovan -- who's channeling the cold and intimidating Sister Aloysius (Doubt) in a nun's black habit and hood -- made a grand entrance through the audience at the recent New York debut of STREEP TEASE, an evening of monologues culled from Meryl Streep's current database of 49 movies performed with an all-male cast.

BWW Reviews: STREEP TEASE a Gem of a Show

What a glorious little show so full of possibilities! Performed by eight men, delivering monologues made famous by Meryl Streep from many of her iconic films, there is something for everyone in this piece: comedy, drama, laughter, tears - and even audience participation. Yes, there are two quiz games with prizes, where audience members are asked to answer trivia questions about Ms Streep and to match her famous quotes to the films in which they originated. I had completely forgotten that she graduated from Vassar with a major in costume design. It seemed back then that our heroine didn't deem herself pretty enough to make it as a movie star. What a delectable twist of fate.
