I don't think a day goes by that I don't hear Dean Martin's voice in my head coupled with a flashback of an image of how cool he looked in his tux walking out on stage. Last night at Lorenzo's Cabaret in the Hilton Garden Inn his daughter Deana brought Dino's music and charisma back to life in Richard Nicotra's Las Vegas type supper club located on Staten Island in NYC.

Alex Leonard is a classy performer. His relaxed, minimalist style and adherence to vocals as written take one back to an agreeable past. Jazz riffs weave around rather than obscure melody. Lyric meaning is gracefully maintained. Aided and abetted by expert veterans Jay Leonhart on bass and Al Gafa on guitar, Leonard saluted the great Nat King Cole at Pangea on January 18 with a bit of history, a couple of illuminating anecdotes, and signature songs.

When the show premiered to a sold-out house in January, Eakeley was praised for his 'bewitching stage presence' with 'decidedly sensual power and lush jazz vocals' by BroadwayWorld.com. Currently appearing on Broadway in She Loves Me, Eakeley and his four-piece jazz band reinterpret classic songs from the 1960s in a nightclub act that chronicles the American stage's evolution from conservative to carefree. Bernie Furshpan, operating partner of the Metropolitan Room served up Champagne at a reception to celebrate Julie Budd's Residency at the Cabaret. Lots of show biz friends turned out to congratulate Julie on her "new home". Julie's first show is on May 14th and Richard Skipper her publicist announced the the opening performance is almost sold out.

Performers include Jamie Hartmann, Celia Berk and Craig Pomranz. The featured performer in the 'Young Musician Moment' will be Talia Wynzel.

Performances are scheduled for Sunday, May 4 at 4pm, Wednesday, May 7 at 7pm, and Wednesday, May 14 at 7pm at Don't Tell Mama, 343 W 46 St. $15 music charge with 2 drink minimum.
