And a few tunes later, even some silver-haired members of the La Jolla community were dancing in the aisles. The Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band has that effect on people. It’s hard to keep your feet still and a smile off your face once Sanchez and his talented rhythm section start a salsa beat.

Poncho Sanchez Pays Tribute To John Coltrane On New Album
On his first new album in seven years, GRAMMY Award-winning conguero Poncho Sanchez celebrates the life and music of the iconic saxophonist John Coltrane. Due out September 20, 2019 via Concord Picante, Trane's Delight is a love letter from one musical pioneer to another, as the Latin Jazz legend pays homage to one of his earliest and most indelible influences. The joyous album arrives just in time for the late tenor titan's 93rd birthday on September 23.

Arrangements of the music of Tadd Dameron, Louis Armstrong, Clifford Brown, original compositions, and more. Leo Maxey is a Baltimore area jazz trumpeter. Reared in Augusta, GA, he began his musical studies under the tutelage of his father Leonard Maxey, Sr. and Darian Washington and studied with the likes of local greats John Bradley, Michael Katterjohn, and Todd Jenkins. He holds tenure with the BCJO and has performed with artist to include the David Murray Baltimore Big Band, Frankie Ruiz, Todd Marcus Jazz Orchestra, the Whitt Williams Big Band, The Four Tops, The Impressions, the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, and others. He studied with Alex Norris, Tim Murphy, Gary Thomas, Michael Formanek, Paul Bollenback, Russell Thomas, Robert Blaine, and Darcie Bishop.

On Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at the historic Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem, The National Jazz Museum in Harlem (NJMH) hosted its Third Annual Fall Benefit Concert, Uptown in Autumn which was attended by nearly 400 guests, and successfully met its goal of raising over $50,000 for the organization's year-round free jazz concerts and education program offerings.
