Franco Zeffirelli’s larger-than-life production of Puccini’s Turandot returns to the Met stage for 17 performances, starting February 28. Ukrainian conductor Oksana Lyniv will lead the production.

The Metropolitan Opera somehow managed to upstage itself on Thursday, when it offered audiences a spectacular recital by Norwegian soprano Lisa Davidsen, with her excellent musical partner James Baillieu, on piano, 12 days before the company’s official opening night (the Jake Heggie-Terrence McNally DEAD MAN WALKING on the 26th). It’ll be a hard act to follow.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) has announced that Samy Rachid has been appointed as new assistant conductor for a two-year term, effective in October 2023. BSO Music Director Andris Nelsons named Rachid to succeed Anna Rakitina in the position following an audition process.
