SAG-AFTRA Inaugural National Convention Concludes with Officer Speeches
The inaugural SAG-AFTRA National Convention concluded today with inspiring speeches from the union's top officers, which focused on the convention's theme: United for Our Future. The day capped a four-day convention bringing together member delegates from across the country to celebrate union solidarity and conduct business.
SAG-AFTRA Commercials Contracts Approved with 96 Percent of Vote
In national voting completed today, SAG-AFTRA members overwhelmingly approved new, three-year contracts negotiated with the advertising industry covering commercials. The 2013 SAG-AFTRA Commercials Contract and 2013 SAG-AFTRA Radio Recorded Commercials Contract are the first major contracts negotiated by SAG-AFTRA as one union since merger in March 2012.
Taye Diggs, Busy Philipps to Announce 2012 SAG Award Nominations, 12/12
Busy Philipps, star of the TBS original comedy series 'Cougar Town,' and Taye Diggs, star of the ABC drama 'Private Practice,' will reveal the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations on Wednesday, Dec. 12. The announcement will be telecast live on TNT at 9 a.m. (ET)/6 a.m. (PT) and webcast live on tnt.tv and tbs.com. SAG-AFTRA Co-President Roberta Reardon and Executive Vice President Ned Vaughn will introduce Phillips and Diggs to the assembled media. Just prior to the nominations announcements, SAG Awards Committee Vice Chair Daryl Anderson and Committee Member Woody Schultz will announce the stunt ensemble honors nominations at 8:50 a.m. (ET) / 5:50 a.m. (PT).
Tony Shalhoub, Roberta Reardon & More to Attend 2012 HOLA Awards Tonight, 10/8
Attending the 13th Annual Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors (HOLA) Awards presented by Delta Air Lines tonight, October 8, 2012 will be SAG-AFTRA elected leadership reps that include national SAG-AFTRA Co- President, Roberta Reardon and national SAG-AFTRA Co-Treasurer and Co-Secretary, Amy Aquino. Also joining the celebration will be Tony Plana, Tony Shalhoub, Brooke Adams and CNN's Jane Vélez-Mitchell. A special tribute to the late Lupe Ontiveros will be given by Latin Heat Editor and co-host of 'HOLA L.A.' Bel Hernández. Odalys Molina and Jorge Ramos will serve as the Masters of Ceremonies of this year's HOLA Awards.
SAG-AFTRA Receives AFL-CIO Charter
SAG-AFTRA today received a new, national charter from the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations. SAG-AFTRA joins 55 other unions, comprising more than 12 million working men and women, under the AFL-CIO banner.
SAG-AFTRA Co-President Reardon Honored by NYC Central Labor Council
Roberta Reardon, co-president of SAG-AFTRA, was honored by the NYC Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO in recognition for her work as former AFTRA national president and on the SAG-AFTRA merger campaign with the NYC Central Labor Council's Distinguished Service Award. Her award reads: "In recognition of decades of service to the Labor Movement and her inspired leadership in merging two powerful unions into a new, unique voice for working people."
SAG-AFTRA National Board of Directors Met in Los Angeles May 19-20
The National Board of Directors of the newly formed SAG-AFTRA met for the first time over May 19 and 20, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. SAG-AFTRA represents more than 160,000 actors, announcers, broadcast journalists, dancers, DJs, news writers, news editors, program hosts, puppeteers, recording artists, singers, stunt performers, voiceover artists and other media professionals.
SAG, AFTRA Members Approve Merger to Form SAG-AFTRA
The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and Screen Actors Guild have just announced that members of both organizations have overwhelmingly voted to approve a merger, creating a new entity, SAG-AFTRA. SAG members voted 82 percent in favor of the merger. AFTRA members favored the merger with 86 percent, exceeding the 60 percent threshold needed for both unions' membership for passage.
