Robert Wierzel is a Tony-nominated lighting designer who has worked on numerous productions on Broadway and beyond. He was born in 1956 in NYC and began his career in lighting design in the early 1980s. Wierzel's Broadway credits include the Tony-nominated production of "Fela!," "Lady Day At Emmerson's Bar & Grill," starring Audra McDonald, and "David Copperfield: Dreams and Nightmares." In addition to his work on Broadway, Wierzel has designed lighting for numerous off-Broadway productions, including "Indian Ink," a play by Tom Stoppard produced by the Roundabout. Other productions include The New York Philharmonic, BAM, Mostly Mozart, and The Park Avenue Armory. He has also worked extensively in regional theater, designing lighting for productions at the Guthrie Theater, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Shakespeare Theatre Company, and many others. Wierzel has also worked in opera, designing lighting for the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Houston Grand Opera, Seattle opera, and other major companies. In addition to his work in theater and opera, Wierzel has designed lighting for dance, including a decades-long collaboration with Bill T. Jones and the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company.
