Two-time Grammy nominated producer, musician, conductor, writer and publisher, Robert Thompson is President of Schirmer Theatrical/G. Schirmer/AMP/Wise Music (part of Wise Music Group) where he works with a creative team representing, producing and publishing a diverse array of Grammy, Oscar, Pulitzer and Tony-winning artists, composers, songwriters in classical, film, theatrical, and commercial music, including Duke Ellington, John Paul Jones, Ludovico Einaudi, Eddie Money, Howard Shore, Ennio Morricone, Jimmy Webb, Missy Mazzoli, Thelonious Monk, Philip Glass, John Corigliano, Florence Price, Minnie Riperton, Bryce Dessner, Franz Waxman, Tan Dun, Jocelyn Pook and many others, along with the concert & film music catalogs of Sony Music Publishing, NBCUniversal and Warner-Chappell.
In 2015, Thompson founded Schirmer Theatrical (part of Wise Music Group) which produces high-end immersive concert experiences such as "REVOLUTION: THE MUSIC OF THE BEATLES" and "WOMEN ROCK", along with film with live orchestra including "GHOSTBUSTERS" (for Sony Pictures), "THE RED VIOLIN" (Lionsgate) and "AQUAMAN" (Warner) among others. In 2016, Thompson founded NODE Records, and has executive-produced Stanley Clarke's "Halston", "Free Solo" by Marco Beltrami (for Nat Geo), and Oscar-winner Rachel Portman's "Ask the River", along with Brian Byrne's "Goldenhair" (featuring Julian Lennon and Glenn Close).
Thompson has performed and/or toured with an array of artists including the Moody Blues, Yes, the Four Tops, the Temptations, Frank Sinatra, and Tony Bennett, as well as conducting and producing concerts with the Houston, Seattle, Detroit, Nashville and Phoenix Symphonies, among others. He holds a doctorate in music from the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester and received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of South Florida. He is a Kaufmann Foundation advisor to the Eastman School of Music’s Entrepreneurship in Music program, and inaugurated SUNY Purchase College's arts administration program where he taught arts & entertainment law and music entrepreneurship and served as Dean of Music. Thompson is currently President of the Music Publishers Association of the USA and a member of both ASCAP’s Board of Review and ASCAP’s Concert Committee.
Together with New York Yankee Bernie Williams, Thompson co-authored the book "Rhythms of the Game" (foreword by Paul Simon). He's most recently been profiled in the New York Times for his work with Schirmer in restoring the works of Florence Price and Julius Eastman and on CBS Sunday Morning.
