Robert Redford is an American actor, director, and producer known for his iconic roles in films like "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" and "The Sting." Born on August 18, 1936, in Santa Monica, California, Redford grew up in a middle-class family and attended the University of Colorado, where he studied art and theater.



After college, Redford moved to New York City to pursue an acting career. He made his Broadway debut in 1959 in the play "Tall Story." In 1960, he appeared in the Broadway production of "The Highest Tree." His work on stage caught the attention of Hollywood producers, and he soon began landing roles in films.

Redford's breakthrough role came in 1967 when he starred opposite Paul Newman in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid." The film was a massive success and cemented Redford's status as a leading man. He went on to star in several other successful films, including "The Sting," "The Way We Were," and "All the President's Men."

In addition to his work on screen, Redford has also directed and produced several films. His directorial debut came in 1980 with the film "Ordinary People," which won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture. He went on to direct several other films, including "A River Runs Through It" and "The Horse Whisperer."

Redford has also been involved in environmental activism and founded the Sundance Institute, which supports independent filmmakers. He has also been a vocal advocate for climate change awareness and has worked to protect public lands.
