BWW Review: FOREVER PLAID Musically Encourages Everyone to Follow Their Dream

FOREVER PLAID by Stuart Ross is a musical that lends itself to offering audiences a goofy, charming musical escape, and is considered one of the most popular and successful off-Broadway musicals in history. Having never before seen a production of it, I have always been curious why those who have either been in a production or seen the show are such outspoken fans of it. Those involved with the show speak of the 'brotherhood of Plaid' that exists between those who have performed or directed the show previously, with the understanding that if called upon at any time to take part in a production of the musical, it would be a crime to not jump in and make the show an audience favorite. So when I was invited to the current production at the International City Theatre in Long Beach, I jumped at the chance to see what all the fuss is about.

Transcendence Theatre Company to Host Evening of New Works

Transcendence Theatre Company, now in its 4th season presenting summer concerts in Sonoma Wine Country, is perhaps best known for 'Broadway Under the Stars,' an award-winning series of Broadway-inspired concerts featuring performers from Los Angeles and New York - artists who come to the Sonoma stage directly from recent Broadway appearances. More than a standard musical revue, each show weaves popular Broadway songs into a spectacular themed performance presented in the open-air 150-year-old Winery Ruins at Jack London State Historic Park.
BWW Blog: Libby Servais of Transcendence Theatre Company's 'Broadway Under the Stars' - Music of the Night

After Ben Vereen's legendary show here at Transcendence Theatre Company, we TTC artists are continuously reflecting on the cherished wisdom and inspiration that Ben has left deeply rooted into our hearts. One moment in particular that I continue to think about is when I asked Ben if he was excited for his show and he replied with a gigantic grin and both hands in the air, 'I wake up excited! Everyday!' I also surrendered my hands into the air and said 'Me too!' And then I realized that I was standing outside a vineyard of grapes, giggling with Ben Vereen about how we must live each day to the fullest... Later he also shared with our company, 'Don't knock em' dead. They're already dead, knock em' into life!' Those epic words will stick with me forever. Basically, when I grow up, I want to be like Ben Vereen!

Laurel and Hardy Light Up the Falcon, Closes 10/2

Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy were the iconic comedy duo who made it possible for comedians like Jerry Lewis, Dick Van Dyke, Jim Carry and Adam Sandler to find their niche. Their intense chemistry, comaraderie and timing were impeccable. No one could do a five-minute sketch about putting up a ladder or pasting a billboard with the exact physical skill, dexterity or panache quite like Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. In Tom McGrath's play Laurel and Hardy, we see the funny and not so funny side of both men who brought wealth and fame to the Hal Roach Studio. At the Falcon Theatre until October 2, Laurel and Hardy are truly knocking 'em dead.
