Robert Upton, a Kenwood Academy student, won second place in the August Wilson Monologue Contest at the Goodman Theater on March 10, 2014. He is one of two students from the Chicago area who moved on to the final phase of the contest in New York City. He competed with 20 students from around the country in the National Finals on May 4, 2014, at the August Wilson Theater on Broadway. He later went on to win second place in the National Finals.
Robert has been involved in drama for many years performing several times a year with the Drama Starz, a group of student actors at Kenwood Academy. Robert wants to become a professional actor and plans to study theater in college. In his spare time, Robert writes and performs Rap music, plays basketball, and enjoys spending time with his family. His favorite subjects in school are science, math, and drama, of course.
