Young People's Theatre's SCARBERIA Runs Now Through May 1

Young People's Theatre (YPT) is proud to present the world premiere of SCARBERIA, a riveting mystery commissioned by YPT and workshopped at the Banff Centre Playwrights Colony. Written by award-winning expat Canadian Evan Placey, SCARBERIA will be presented in The Studio from April 18 to May 1.
The Human Race's Festival of New Works Set for Next Month; Lineup Announced

This August, The Human Race Theatre Company begins a new chapter in its commitment to the development of new theatre with its first-ever Festival of New Works. This new festival combines the efforts of The Race's Musical Theatre Workshops and its Marsha Hanna New Plays Workshops into a unified program. 'It allows us to showcase what we do-musicals and plays-at one time of year,' says Human Race President and Artistic Director Kevin Moore. 'It's a better use of our resources and personnel. Plus, it creates a greater, more diverse experience for our audiences.' The 2015 Festival of New Works presents a collection of readings of five scripts-three plays and two musicals-by local, national and international writers. Readings will be held in the 60-seat Caryl D. Philips Creativity Center of The Human Race and The 212-seat Loft Theatre in downtown Dayton.
Sheridan Hosts SONG, STAGE AND SCREEN IX CONFERENCE this Week

Sheridan is hosting the 'Song, Stage and Screen IX Conference' this week, June 24-26 at its Oakville campus - the first time this event has been held in Canada. The conference, coordinated by the academic journal, Studies in Musical Theatre, brings together educators in the field from around the world to discuss music theatre practices. This year's theme is 'The Art of Collaboration in Musical Theatre'.

Cliff Saunders Set to Host BLAME CANADA! Concert at 54 Below, 3/17

Final casting has been announced for BLAME CANADA!, an evening featuring the best in Canadian musical theatre happening at 54 BELOW on Monday, March 17 at 9:30pm. Cliff Saunders, who currently stars as Thenardier in the revival of Les Miserables on Broadway, hosts the evening that celebrates the launch of the newly formed Canadian Musical Theatre Writers Collective (CMTWC).

Nicky Phillips has a very ambitious new adventure on her hands, having just launched a new company called 'Your Broadway Song' which she plans to expand within both Toronto and NYC. The company designs custom Broadway themed songs for various special occasions, and kicked off with a song written for Canadian legend Colm Wilkinson. BWW spoke to Nicky about how the idea for Your Broadway Song evolved, her feelings on Canadian Musical Theatre and her sources of inspiration.
Canadian Music Theatre Project to Kick Off April 10

The Canadian Music Theatre Project is Canada's first incubator for the development of new musical theatre works by Canadian and international composers, lyricists and book-writers. The first two works being developed are COME FROM AWAY, by David Hein and Irene Sankoff (My Mother's Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding, 2010 New York Music Theatre Festival "Outstanding New Musical" and "Excellence in Writing" awards), under the direction of David Ferry and musical direction of Callum Morris and CENTRAL PARK TANGO, by Robert Gontier and Nicky Phillips (Johnny Mercer Songwriters Project, In Flanders Fields), under the direction of Jim Betts and musical direction of Aaron Eyre.
BWW Feature: Profiling 360 Screenings

360 Screenings is a unique new theatrical venture in the city of Toronto that combines film and live theatre together for an immersive, interactive experience. Launching on May 25th at a secret location, the event promises to allow audience members the opportunity to 'become a part of the film'.
