MainStreet Theatre Company to Receive $15,000 Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts
The City of Rancho Cucamonga's MainStreet Theatre Company has been approved for a $15,000 Art Works grant to support the development and world premiere of Mariachi Tales, a new play with music by José Cruz Gonzáles. Mr. Gonzáles is an award-winning playwright whose plays have been produced at theatres across the country. A collection of his plays, Nine Plays by José Cruz González Magical Realism & Mature Themes in Theatre for Young Audiences was published by the University of Texas Press in 2009.

The UC San Diego Department of Theatre and Dance has announced the winner of the 2018 Dr. Floyd Gaffney National Playwriting Competition, Stand and Wait by Eliana Pipes. Eliana will be awarded a $1000 prize, and her play will receive a staged reading today, May 12 at 10 AM, at the Wagner Theater in the Joan and Irwin Jacobs Theatre District on UC San Diego's campus.

These are some of the questions that will be answered with joyful exuberance when the beloved 1968 Caldecott Honor Book comes to life on stage! Frederick, based on Leo Lionni's book about a poet mouse who stores up something special for the long winter, opens at the Lewis Family Playhouse on May 5th, and runs through May 20th.

French playwright and director, Celine Nyanga, selected the perfect spot in old Hollywood, (Figaro Bistrot Boulangerie) with its French antiques, dimly lit, cast-iron chandeliers and a zinc bar for this special evening. It was the ideal place for Nyanga to offer the lead role of her upcoming play Uterine Affairs or the Inconceivable Conception, to the delightful and proficient actress Mariana Montes.

Greenway Court Theatre Presents the World Premiere of SWARM CELL, written by Gabriel Rivas Gomez (Chasing Monsters, Scar Tissue, Thisability), directed by Robert Castro (Se Llama Cristina, Before the Revolution). Written by Gabriel Rivas Gomez, with contributions from Los Angeles' Fairfax High School. Inspired by John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath, SWARM CELL asserts a brave new world of womanhood and Identity. Twenty-five years into the future, in desperate need of shelter, a pair of homeless women discover themselves forging an unlikely alliance. In an economy turned on its head, the duo - one deaf, the other pregnant and undocumented - find work in a questionable warehouse intent on preying upon its roustabouts. This cohort of migrants are conditioned to believe the commodities they package hold more value than their own lives. Devising a hive may be their only hope for survival. Are you a queen or one of the worker bees?
Greenway Arts Alliance to Stage Five World Premieres in 2015-16
Greenway Arts Alliance has announced a season of five world premieres kicking off September 25 with BREATHE by Javon Johnson which will run concurrently with BREATHING ROOM by Mary Lou Newmark (beginning October 3). FRONT DOOR OPEN by Tom Baum follows in November, and 2016 will begin with SWARM CELL by Gabriel Rivas Gomez, opening in January. The season will conclude with SIX LETTERS IN HARLEM by Crescent McGlone, opening in July.
