BWW Review: The Kids Aren't Alright in SPRING AWAKENING
When did you learn about sex? How? Who told you about 'the birds and the bees,' 'making a baby,' 'when two people really love one another'? I'm not sure where I picked it up, though I'm fairly certain it wasn't from my parents. The gag reflex rising in my throat even at the thought makes me certain I never flat out asked my mother.
In any case the information got to me somehow, and I lived to tell the tale via hazy, inconsistent memories. mad Theatre of Tampa's production of SPRING AWAKENING, the first show of their 16th season, follows a group of adolescents in late 19th century Germany as they question what's happening to their bodies - physically and emotionally

St. Petersburg Opera Chooses OPERA IDOL, 11/30
The fifth St. Petersburg Opera "Opera Idol" will be chosen November 30, 2012 at a competition beginning at 7:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 701 Beach Dr., St. Petersburg. The reigning Opera Idol, soprano Vanessa Rodriguez, a recent graduate of University of South Florida, will relinquish her title, but not before singing as part of a quartet (also including Melissa Misener, Chris Romeo, and Rimas Karnavicius, all previous contestants.)

On Saturday, November 20, 2010, at 7 p.m., fifteen singers will perform at Studio @620 in St. Petersburg Opera's version of 'Opera Idol.' These young singers have been participating in a series of workshops led by Maestro Mark Sforzini in which they have received extensive coaching in interpretation and performance techniques. In addition to over 12 hours of group sessions, each singer worked with Maestro Sforzini one-on-one. These workshops and coachings were made possible by a generous gift from the Florida Suncoast Opera Guild, as part of their Education Sponsorship for the 2010-2011 Season of St. Petersburg Opera.
