Hillbarn Theatre, the Peninsula's premier theatre company, announced today that the Demon Barber of Fleet Street will terrorize the streets of Foster City with Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's bloody-fun musical thriller, Sweeney Todd. Hailed as 'a staggering theater spectacle and more fun than a graveyard on the night of the annual skeleton's ball," (New York Daily News), Sweeney Todd will perform at Hillbarn Theatre (1285 East Hillsdale Blvd., Foster City) January 24-February 10, 2019. The performance schedule is as follows: Thursdays-Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.; there will be no matinee Saturday, January 26. Hillbarn Theatre, the Peninsula's premier theatre company, closes out its 2016-17 season with the Peninsula premiere of the five-time Tony Award-nominated musical smash, Sister Act. Based on the hit 1992 film of the same name, this feel-good musical comedy centers around wannabe diva Deloris Van Cartier who, after witnessing a crime, is put into witness protection in the least likely of places-a convent. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but, in doing so, blows her cover. Fraught with the woes of puberty, these youngsters struggle to become the best, but ultimately learn that winning is not everything and that losing does not necessarily make them a loser.
CSC Sets $17 Million Campaign to Build New Theatre
Cincinnati Shakespeare Company (CSC) announced today a $17 million capital campaign titled 'Making History Unexpected' to construct a new theatre at 12th and Elm Streets, in the heart of Over-the-Rhine. The new facility will incorporate space for modern theatrical technology, increased seating capacity and lobby, expanded education and community outreach opportunities, as well as on-site production areas and administrative offices. The theatre will also become the 'finale' of a planned 'Classical Arts Corridor' connecting Music Hall, Memorial Hall, the School for Creative and Performing Arts, and Washington Park.
