Richard Amelius is an innovative and versatile director, choreographer, and writer with over fifty shows to his credit. He directed Night Divine at the legendary Apollo Theatre starring Shoshana Bean and Cynthia Erivo; a sold-out female centered concert of Jesus Christ Superstar starring Morgan James, Shoshana Bean, Alex Newell, and Orfeh at Highline Ballroom; the World Premier of Time Between Us at New York Musical Festival; and Take Two at Northern Stage in Vermont. He served as Assistant Artistic Director of The Media Theatre for three seasons, and PSM for the 2004 Grand Gala starring Betty Buckley. Under his supervision, productions and actors garnered six Philadelphia Barrymore Award nominations including three for Mr. Amelius himself: Two for “Best Choreography” for Sweet Charity and Cabaret and one for “Best Leading Actor in a Musical” for his portrayal of the Emcee in Cabaret. He was also nominated for Connecticut Critic’s Circle Awards “Best Direction” and “Best Choreography” for his productions of Footloose and All Shook Up at The Ivoryton Playhouse.
