BWW Review: ORLANDO: A Revolutionary, Radical New Opera Blends Art With Activism at Vienna State Opera

Orlando was a deeply engaging, intriguing and thought-provoking exploration whose pondering, messages, striking soundscapes and visuals reverberated and lingered long after the curtain had closed. It is a highly ambitious undertaking but Neuwirth and her colleagues were up for the challenge. What is most exciting is what has now been established for a venue such as The Wiener Straatsoper as we move into a new decade of uncertain times when it is vital that radical expressions of art and activism combined are given such a grand stage with which to proclaim their truths.
Fashion Designer Rei Kawakubo To Design New Opera ORLANDO At Vienna State Opera

On 8th December 2019, internationally celebrated American soprano, Constance Hauman, (www.constancehauman.com) will make her Vienna State Opera Debut. She will perform three roles (Queen Elizabeth I, Purity, Friend of Orlando's Child) in the cast of Orlando, a world premiere opera by Austrian composer, Olga Neuwirth, who is the first woman to be commissioned to compose an opera for the Vienna State Opera in over 150 years. Orlando is based on the novel (Published 11th October 1928) by Virginia Woolf. Costumes for the production will be designed by the legendary Japanese fashion designer, Rei Kawakubo, founder of Comme des Garçons fashion empire.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today that The Costume Institute's spring 2018 exhibition will be Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, on view from May 10 through October 8, 2018 (preceded on May 7 by The Costume Institute Benefit).
The Sheen Center Presents Inside HEAVENLY BODIES: Fashion And The Catholic Imagination

On Monday, May 21 at 7:00 p.m., come to the Sheen Center for Thought & Culture (18 Bleecker Street, at the corner of Elizabeth Street) for Inside 'Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,' a conversation with curators about the largest exhibition in the history of The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, featuring a significant loan of papal robes and accessories from the Vatican's Sistine Chapel Sacristy. Academy Of Art University To Host 2018 Graduation Fashion Show And Awards Ceremony

The School of Fashion at Academy of Art University will host its annual Graduation Fashion Show and Awards Ceremony on Thursday, April 26, 2018. The invitation-only event begins with select graduating students from the M.F.A. and B.F.A. programs presenting their work to industry professionals. The programs include: fashion design, textile design, knitwear design, 3D design and pattern making, costume design, journalism, styling, product development, visual merchandising, fashion merchandising, and fashion marketing. The fashion show portion of the event will include womenswear, menswear and childswear collections; several of the collections were created through collaboration by students within the fashion, knitwear and textile design programs.

Museum Mile Festival to Take Place in NYC, 6/13

Now celebrating its 39th year, the annual Museum Mile Festival takes place rain or shine on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.  Over 1.5 million people have taken part in this annual celebration since its inception. Festival attendees can walk the Mile on Fifth Avenue between 82nd Street and 105th Street while visiting seven of New York City's finest cultural institutions, which are open free to the public throughout the evening. The Museum Mile Festival's opening ceremony takes place at 5:45pm at El Museo del Barrio (Fifth Avenue at 104th Street).
