BWW Review: EVITA at Theatre Frisco
by Kyle Christopher West - Jun 15, 2017
Whether or not you're a fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber, you likely know what to expect when approaching any of his famous musicals. From JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR to JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, his catalog is filled with wordy, pop-sounding scores that often offer a CliffsNotes version of the tales they are retelling. His demanding productions also require strong performers and creative visionaries to effectively communicate his material to the audience. Unfortunately, the black-box style EVITA offered at Frisco Theatre struggles to overcome the show's challenges, despite an earnest community theatre effort.

BWW Feature: Our Favorite Moments of 2016
by Kyle Christopher West - Dec 31, 2016
By all accounts, 2016 has been quite the rollercoaster ride. Fortunately for DFW audiences, the local theatre community and many of the touring productions delivered nothing short of a stellar year, setting quite a high bar for upcoming performances. As we say goodbye to another December, we'd like to look back on a handful of memories that stood out among the long list of Playbills we've gathered. And like raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, these live theatre moments will be remembered as a few of our favorite things.
We present this list in no particular order, and without awards or titles bestowed upon those listed. To everyone who contributed to the DFW theatre community in 2016, we thank you for sharing your time and talents with us.
BWW Review: JEKYLL & HYDE at Onstage In Bedford
by Christina Hoth - Jul 11, 2016
Church bells tolled as the sound of horse hooves on cobblestone echoed to set the stage at Onstage in Bedford this weekend for the opening of Jekyll & Hyde. A twist on the classic tale of one man's struggle to conquer his inner demons, this musical version of Robert Louis Stevenson's 1886 tale was adapted for the stage by Steve Cuden and Frank Wildhorn. Over the past century there have been innumerable adaptations of the original novella, including over 120 versions written for stage and film. The actors and production team of Onstage continued this time honored tradition this weekend to sold out audiences.
