Quintessence Theatre Group, Philadelphia's professional classic theatre, continues Season XIII: Celebrating the Extraordinary with Clifford Odets' American classic Waiting For Lefty. Directed by Kyle Haden, Waiting For Lefty remains an incendiary and revolutionary play about the growing pains of labor in capitalist America, and starts previews January 18, with an Opening Night Saturday, January 21 at 7:30 p.m.

The Irish phrase “a holy show” means to embarrass or make a spectacle of oneself, the perfect title for this whirlwind comedy based on the true story of a disgraced Australian monk who hijacked a passenger jet using nothing but holy water.
Quintessence Theatre Group Readies First-Ever Three Show Repertory
Quintessence Theatre Group, Philadelphia's professional classic repertory theatre, closes out its 10th Anniversary season with its first-ever three show repertory. From March 25-May 17, 2020 the company is presenting the Dreams and Madness Repertory. Each of these three plays explores the danger of love, the difference between dreams and madness, and the destructive power of authority and government.

Inis Nua Theatre presents English playwright Monsay Whitney's Box Clever for its American premiere, directed by Artistic Director Tom Reing. In a women's shelter in London, headstrong, mouthy and maybe a little crazy Marnie struggles to take care of her four-year-old daughter in a moving and relevant dark comedy. This edgy two-hander stars Inis newcomer Ruby Wolf as Marnie, and Inis alum Rachel Brodeur playing all other roles. Previews begin Wednesday, February 6, with opening night on Friday, February 8. The show runs through February 24, 2019 for a total of 15 performances. All performances will take place at the Louis Bluver Theatre at the Drake, 302 South Hicks Street. Tickets are $25 - $35. Inis Nua Theatre Revives Dublin by LAMPLIGHT by Michael West from November 9-20, 2016
Inis Nua Theatre Company will team up with Drexel University's Mandell Professionals in Residence Project (MPiRP) to present a revival of Dublin by Lamplight by Michael West. Inis Nua's breakout hit from 2011 will be remounted with some familiar names, a grand two-level stage, and the talents of co-op students working side-by-side with the professional actors. Using commedia dell'arte make-up stylings and Storytellers theatre, the cast of six will portray 40 different characters in the fast-paced tale about the launch of the Irish National Theatre. Dublin by Lamplight runs November 9 to 20th at Drexel's Mandell Theater (3201 Chestnut Street).

This well-mannered tragedy will tackle issues of sex, domesticity and class manners. Deeply controversial in its time, productions of this 1926 play were censored, and its producers and actors jailed. The Captive will be produced inside Society Hill's Physick House at 321 S. 4th Street. The historic townhouse in fact will be the perfect co-conspirator as the secrets and heated private moments unfold. PAC co-founding Artistic Director Dan Hodge directs the talented cast led by well-known Rachel Brodeur and newcomer Chase Byrd.
