Aretha Franklin Dance Tribute Opens BAAD!'s BlakTinX Festival

The Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance kicks off its fall season with the BlakTinX Performance Series from October 19 to November 20, 2018. This annual multidisciplinary festival inaugurated in 2002 celebrates art and performance by Black, Latinx and artists of color. Jon Robin Baitz's Other Desert Cities' is an emotion roller coaster. It is a heart wrenching story set around what is supposed to be a happy time of year and Richard T. Dolce's cast wonderfully delivers at the stunning John W. Engeman Theatre. Running through March 9th at the Northport venue, the play revolves around a prominent political Californian family.

Engeman Theater presents OTHER DESERT CITIES, the funny, gripping and ultimately satisfying play about family secrets brought to light from Jon Robin Baitz (creator of TV's Brothers & Sisters), which was a finalist for the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Cast Announced for Portland Center Stage's FUTURA

Imagine a world where the printed word is forbidden; it may by closer than you think. The first rehearsals for Jordan Harrison's cautionary tale Futura, directed by Kip Fagan, are now underway at Portland Center Stage. Futura begins previews on Tuesday, February 1, opens Friday, February 4, and runs Tuesday through Sunday until March 27. Evening performances are at 7:30 p.m., with matinees at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and select Thursday matinees at noon.
