A full room of supportive music appreciators heard some new musical theatre-style material based on assignments like 'Imagine Blanche DuBois singing' or 'write a love song without the word 'love.''
A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE Heats Up Odyssey Theatre
The team behind 2016's acclaimed production of Tennessee Williams' rarely-seen Kingdom of Earth, is back - this time, with Williams' Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece, A Streetcar Named Desire. Jack Heller directs Susan Priver (down-on-her-luck showgirl Myrtle in Kingdom of Earth, LA Weekly award-winning The Lover by Harold Pinter) as Blanche DuBois and Max E. Williams (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., numerous productions with Elephant Theatre Company) as Stanley Kowalski in a visiting production at the Odyssey Theatre presented by Dance On Productions in association with Linda Toliver and Gary Guidinger. Passions flare and cultures collide in the sultry streets of New Orleans beginning May 25, with performances continuing though July 7.

BWW Reviews: Monty Python Meets Offenbach in City Opera's Daffy LA PERICHOLE
New York City Opera's production of Jacques Offenbach's LA PERICHOLE feels right at home at City Center, home of the 'Encores!' series, which reintroduces audiences to lesser known Broadway musicals that failed or went out of fashion despite wonderful scores. PERICHOLE doesn't have a care in the world in Christopher Alden's boisterous vision. It's a cheerful reminder of a musical style that has unjustifiably fallen by the wayside.

Abingdon Theatre Company - which has produced more than 79 new American plays in its 20-year history - concludes its 2012-2013 Season with the New York premiere of THE GOOD BOY by Michael Bonnabel, set to begin previews April 26, prior to its official press opening May 5, at Abingdon Theatre Company's Dorothy Strelsin Theatre (312 West 36th Street). Lyric Opera of Chicago announces a special performance of Andre Previn's A Streetcar Named Desire for high-school and college students with tickets for only $20. The operatic version of the Tennessee Williams classic will be seen in a semi-staged presentation with the Lyric Opera Orchestra onstage, with singers Beverly O' Regan Thiele (Blanche), Kiera Duffy (Stella), David Adam Moore (Stanley), and Scott Ramsay (Mitch). Evan Rogister conducts this presentation, which is directed by Brad Dalton.
