Out of Box Theatre announces its 8th Season of intimate, thought-provoking and unexpected theatre. The season begins in August, 2019 with award-winning playwright Topher Payne's new hysterical farce, Entertaining Lesbians, which Payne directs as part of Out of Box's new Beta Test Performance Series bring new works by local playwrights to the stage.Â
Company Of Fools Presents Woody Guthrie's AMERICAN SONG
Company of Fools (COF) will kick off its 23rd season of dynamic theatre programming in late June with Woody Guthrie's American Song, an ensemble musical based on the famed singer-songwriter's folk music and writings that was praised by The Seattle Times as "An exuberant musical celebration of our nation, our history, and our shared humanity." Directed by Kent Thompson with musical direction by R.L. Rowsey, the production will run June 26-July 15 at the Liberty Theatre in Hailey. Woody Guthrie's American Song is presented in conjunction with The Center's BIG IDEA project We the People: Protests and Patriotism.
Company of Fools Theatre Announces its 23rd Season for 2018â€"2019
Interim Producing Director Kent Thompson announces the 23rd season of the Company of Fools, featuring four main stage productions. Its 2018-2019 lineup includes Woody Guthrie's American Song, Heisenberg, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane and concludes with 4000 Miles. While next season's Play Reading Series is still in development, COF is pleased to announce The Agitators as part of the series. "We are excited to share these stories as COF begins a new chapter. UC Berkeley Department of Theater, Dance and Performance Studies Presents Heart of Spain - A MUSICAL OF THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR
This October, the UC Berkeley Department of Theater, Dance and Performance Studies (TDPS) presents Heart of Spain - A Musical of the Spanish Civil War, co-written by TDPS professor Peter Glazer and Eric Bain Peltoniemi. Presented in conjunction with the 80th anniversary of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), Heart of Spain follows a group of US volunteers-men and women from a mix of socio-economic classes and ethnic backgrounds-across the Atlantic, over the Pyrenees, and into battle as they fight to defend the Spanish Republic against fascist General Francisco Franco's military coup on the eve of WWII.
Crowded Fire Theater Welcomes New Artistic Director
Crowded Fire Theater (CFT), one of the Bay Area's most innovative and critically acclaimed producers of new plays, today announced the hiring of Mina Morita as the new Artistic Director. Morita replaces Marissa Wolf, who resigned from her post in December 2014 to become Director of New Works at Kansas City Rep. Morita's hire is the result of a national search that saw applications from over 40 talented candidates. As Artistic Associate at Berkeley Rep, Morita helped establish and run The Ground Floor: Berkeley Rep's Center for the Creation and Development of New Work. Mina also served as Board President of Shotgun Players for the past five years, during which she oversaw immense growth for the company. She will be leaving both positions to lead Crowded Fire in collaboration with longtime Managing Director and current Executive Producing Director Tiffany Cothran.
Crowded Fire Theater's Artistic Director Marissa Wolf to Step Down
Crowded Fire Theater (CFT), one of the Bay Area's most innovative and critically acclaimed producers of new plays, today announced an upcoming change in leadership. After six seasons at its helm, Marissa Wolf will be leaving the position of Artistic Director at the end of Crowded Fire's 2014 Season. Wolf took over artistic leadership of the company in 2008 after founding Artistic Director Rebecca Novick's departure a year prior. Playwright Philip Kan Gotanda Joins Faculty of UC Berkeley
Prolific playwright Philip Kan Gotanda has been appointed a Professor in the Department of Theater, Dance and Performance Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. A groundbreaking figure in American Drama and a champion of stories of marginalized and under-represented communities in America, Gotanda's works are produced and studied throughout the US and abroad.
