BPA Theatre School is now registering for an enticing array of spring classes for pupils of all ages. Students, ages 4 - 7 will blossom in a super-positive growth experience for our littlest islanders: Creative Drama instructs students on using their faces, bodies, and voices to tell a story. Students, ages 6 - 8, will learn two song-and-dance numbers and engage in imaginative skill-building theatre games in Introduction to Musical Theatre.

BPA Theatre School students perform two One-Act plays in a black box setting over the course of two weekends at Studio B, behind the Bainbridge Performing Arts Mainstage. This spring - under the tutelage of Ann Wilkinson Ellis and Pete Benson - students explored a variety of acting methods and styles through a series of intensive exercises and improv games, learning how to break down a script to find their character's backstory and motivations, and applying active tactics to reveal the heart of their character. Their efforts culminate in the spring production of two One-Act plays - SELFIE by Bradley Hayward and LOCKDOWN by Douglas Craven.

Moving to Los Angeles this May, outgoing Director of Education Liz Ellis will pass the baton to Pete, who is thrilled to step in to lead BPA's thriving Theatre Education Program for children, teens, and adults. Pete is eager to help BPA Theatre School students flourish, and he'll join us beginning March 26.

Out of 57 submissions from established and emerging Kitsap County playwrights, ten were selected by a jury of theatre professionals for production by Island Theatre directors and actors: "Bloody Mary" by Aleks Merilo, "Flight of the Valkyrie" by Noah Barfield, "Gel Us" by Paige Zubel, "Jellyfish Apocalypse" by Karen Polinsky, "Lessons Learned" by Jenny Weaver, "Memories of an American Occupation" by Paul Lewis, "Moving On" by Caroline Smith, "Of a Feather" by Wendy Wallace, "Roadsides" by Betsy Dorfman, and "Spreadsheet Me" by Jeffrey Brown.
