Peggy Taphorn is in her twelth season as the Producing Artistic Director of the Temple Theatre! An award winning Actress, Director and Choreographer, Peggy spent 22 years based in NYC with 6 Broadway shows to her credit. She worked with such theatre luminaries as George Abbott, who cast her to star on Broadway in the revival of Broadway! Other Broadway shows followed, including the Tony award winners Me And My Girl, directed by Mike Ockrent, Showboat, directed by Hal Prince and Choreographed by Susan Stroman, Smokey Joe's Café, directed by Jerry Zaks, and Urinetown directed by John Rando. Peggy was the dance captain of the first National tour of Little Women, the Musical starring Maureen McGovern.
Peggy also appeared Off-Broadway, on London's West End, and toured the United States and Canada, South America and the Far East. She portrayed Velma in Chicago in Macao, China, the first "book musical" ever produced in the region. Off-Broadway credits include: Johnny Guitar, nominated for the Lucille Lortel, Obie, Drama Desk & Drama League awards for best musical, No, No Nanette, The Gay Divorce, and The Space.
Peggy has numerous Regional Theatre credits as an Actress, Director, Choreographer and Teaching Artist. She has directed two productions for the NC Symphony and sung with the West Virginia, The St. Louis and Indianapolis Symphony Orchestras. She has also sung at such prestigious venues as: The Rainbow Room, The Russian Tea Room, Tavern On The Green, Danny's Skylight Room and The Hudson River Club.
As an experienced Teaching Artist she Directed shows or master classes at Stages St. Louis, Red Mountain Theatre Company, Actors Guild of Lexington, Burning Coal Theatre Company, Kentucky Ballet Theatre, University of Kentucky and Webster University Conservatory of the Arts to name a few.
Accolades include Kevin Kline, Drammy and Pampta awards. In 2013 she was named a NC Main Street Champion for her work on & dedication to revitalizing downtown Sanford.
In 2007 she left the National Tour of Sweet Charity, starring Molly Ringwald, to helm the Temple Theatre.
