Paul Cathey

Paul Cathey-CMP is Director of Production and Events and proudly joined the AT&T Performing Arts Center prior to opening in 2009. The Center consists of the renowned Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House, Dee and Charles Wyly Theater, Annette Strauss Square and Elaine D. and Charles A. Sammons Park. Home of The Dallas Opera, The Dallas Theater Center, Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Texas Ballet Theater and Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico.
Cathey is an accomplished live production, event professional and administrator who brings over 26 years of experience; including national tours, production management, lighting design, audio engineering, technical direction and pyrotechnic displays. Particularly well respected for his ability to thouroughly and accurately budget any show and have it work in one venue or on the road in many. Regionally to the Center, he has worked or designed for Texas Shakespeare Festival, The Dallas Opera, Shakespeare Dallas, Bruce Wood Dance, Dallas Summer Musicals, Texas Ballet Theater, UNT Opera, Water Tower Theater, Metropolitan Classical Ballet and IATSE Local 126. His diverse career also includes 19 years of multi-venue management at the director level. As director, he oversaw all operations from booking to settlement of a multi-purpose venue hosting a wide variety of events from concerts to division one athletic contests. He was instrumental in the negotiations to lure the Miss Texas Pageant to a new venue and assisting with the preliminary design for a new 7000 seat arena.
His diverse and vast experience includes touring, non-profit, collegiate and corporate entertainment in a varying array of environments from arenas, theaters and convention centers to parking lots and roof tops. These skills and many years of experience enable Paul to have a global understanding of the varied needs of live event production. He is often requested to speak at conferences or universities, where he also occasionally mentors.
Paul earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Design and Production from the University of Texas at Arlington, is a professional member of USITT and IAVM, of which he is a graduate of their Venue Management School and Graduate Institute, earned his Certified Meeting Professional designation in 2014 and is currently pursuing his Certified Facility Executive designation.
