Playwright and Theatre Professor Paul Carter Harrison Dies at 85
BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that playwright and theatre professor, Paul Carter Harrison, has died at 85.While teaching at California State University, Sacramento (1970–1972), Harrison conceived and directed Melvin Van Peebles’ “Ain’t Supposed To Die a Natural Death” prior to its Broadway production, and wrote his play The Great MacDaddy which was produced by the Negro Ensemble Company in 1973, and won an Obie Award.

Occasional Shivers is a brand-new old-fashioned radio play airing this holiday season on public broadcasting, created by Southern-pop icon Chris Stamey for WUNC-FM (Chapel Hill) and distributed nationwide by American Public Media. Set in New York in 1963, the one-hour musical drama tells the story of two young lovers who meet at a pair of Christmas parties.
Helen Mirren to Attend Shakespeare Theatre Company's 2015 Gala Honoring Julie Taymor
At its 2015 Harman Center for the Arts Gala, the Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) will present renowned theatre, film and opera director Julie Taymor with the 2015 William Shakespeare Award for Classical Theatre (Will Award), which recognizes artists who have made significant contributions to classical theatre in America. JM Zell Partners, Ltd. will receive the Sidney Harman Award for Philanthropy in the Arts. Dame Helen Mirren (Academy Award winner and star of Taymor's film The Tempest) will be a special guest at the black-tie event, themed "Imagine: Shakespeare."
