Roger Deakins to Receive Variety Artisan Award at TIFF Tribute Gala
Joana Vicente and Cameron Bailey, Co-Heads of TIFF, today announced that Academy Award-winning cinematographer Roger Deakins will be honoured with the Variety Artisan Award at this year's TIFF Tribute Gala awards event. The award recognizes a distinguished filmmaker who has excelled at their craft and made an outstanding contribution to cinema. Taking place on Monday, September 9, at the Fairmont Royal York, during the 44th Toronto International Film Festival, the Gala is an annual fundraiser to support TIFF's year-round programmes and core mission to transform the way people see the world through film, and to celebrate the film industry's outstanding contributors. iDreamMachine & Paladin Announce Nationwide Theatrical Release of BILLBOARD
Filmmaker Zeke Zelker (“InSearchOf,” “Loggerheads”), under his iDreamMachine production banner has joined forces with Mark Urman's Paladin to bring his latest film, “Billboard,” to cinemas nationwide in over 25 markets beginning on April 5th, 2019. Zelker wrote, directed and produced “Billboard,” which stars: John Robinson (“Elephant,” “Lords of Dogtown,”), Heather Matarazzo (“Welcome to the Dollhouse,” “The Princess Diaries”), Eric Roberts (“The Dark Knight,” “Grey's Anatomy”), Leo Fitzpatrick (“Kids,” “Bully”), Darlene Cates (“What's Eating Gilbert Grapes,” “Picket Fences”), and Oakes Fegley (“Pete's Dragon,” “This is Where I Leave You”). The film will expand to additional multiple major markets nationwide.
INSPIRING WONDERSTRUCK features Nine Films Selected by Brian Selznick
Brian Selznick's books, including Wonderstruck and The Invention of Hugo Cabret, are cabinets of wonder, drawing us into their magical tales with child-eyed awe. Both novels drew upon cinematic influences for both story and visual style. On the occasion of the new movie adaptation of Wonderstruck, directed by Todd Haynes, Museum of the Moving Image will present the screening series Inspiring Wonderstruck, featuring some of the movies that inspired both the book and the movie, from October 13 through 22, 2017. On October 14, during the opening weekend of the series, the Museum will present a preview screening of Wonderstruck with Selznick, production designer Mark Friedberg, and costume designer Sandy Powell in person, followed by a book signing with Selznick.
LA Zoo's Family Jam Evening to Feature Disney's PETE'S DRAGON Photo Op & More
FAMILY JAM AT THE L.A. ZOO, an after-hours opportunity for families to let their sense of adventure run wild, is set for Saturday, July 9, 2016, 6 to 9 pm, at the Zoo, with the theme 'Dinos, Dragons & Dancing.' Spotlighting Disney's upcoming theatrical release Pete's Dragon, the event includes a one-of-a-kind opportunity to follow clues in search of gifts, a family photo-op, and the chance to see the Zoo's very own resident Komodo and bearded dragons. Live music, karaoke, a DJ Dance Party, crafts and games are part of the fun, along with a Paint Party providing the opportunity to commemorate the Family Jam experience with a canvas to take home. There are also up-close encounters with some of the Zoo's smaller residents, keeper talks and viewing of some popular animal exhibits. Headlining the entertainment is Close Encounters, a live karaoke band, and dinner or snacks are available for purchase from popular food trucks. Visitors start the evening with 'oohs and ahhs' as they come face-to-face with the life-size, lifelike prehistoric creatures of Dinosaurs: Unextinct at the L.A. Zoo. They'll leave the event, which is sponsored by 99 Cents Only Stores, Disney's Pete's Dragon, and Solar Optimum, with souvenirs (available while supplies last), smiles and memories to last a lifetime.
