Children's Classic THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH Comes To Life On Carpenter Center Stage
Generations of devoted readers have marveled at the endlessly inventive world and wordplay of Norton Juster's The Phantom Tollbooth. On Saturday, March 23rd, 2019 at 4pm at the Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center, located on the campus of California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), the children's story once again enthralls with an equally inspired production by Enchantment Theatre Company.
Westport Country Playhouse Announces 2019 Family Festivities Series
Westport Country Playhouse announces its 2019 Family Festivities Series on selected Sundays from January through April, featuring musical productions based on classic and contemporary children's stories. The four-show series includes musical versions of the classic, "The Wizard of Oz," and the bestselling book, "Angelina Ballerina." Performances are at 1 and 4 p.m., and are approximately one-hour in length. Tickets, at $20 each, are now on sale.

A stage version of Norton Juster's beloved children's book. Discover Milo's adventures in the Land of Wisdom, where he's forced to think about many new things. Milo learns of the argument between King Azaz and his brother, the Mathemagician, whose disagreement over words and numbers has led to the banishment of Princesses Sweet Rhyme and Pure Reason. Milo is dispatched to rescue the princesses from the Land of Ignorance. The knowledge and skills Milo picks up on his journey help him to save the princesses. When he must return home, Milo's sorry to leave his friends - but enriched by his experience, he realizes his attitude toward learning will never be the same.

In the fantastical Seussical, all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters come to life, and in the Disney Classic, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Quasimodo escapes his bell tower and experiences freedom and adventure. Lastly, in the dark comedy Bat Boy: The Musical, Edgar, a half boy/half bat creature, joins a local family and learns to embrace his human half.

Orchestra of St. Luke's continues its annual residency at Carnegie Hall this season with a wide variety of concerts in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage celebrating historic milestones, collaborating with notable guest soloists, presenting major masterworks of the classical orchestral repertoire, and premiering new works commissioned by Carnegie Hall. The Orchestra kicks off its residency on Thursday, October 12 at 8:00 p.m. with OSL's first Conductor Laureate Pablo Heras-Casado, who concludes his six-year tenure as Principal Conductor. For this special event, the orchestra performs Mozart's "Great" Mass, featuring sopranos Camilla Tilling and Susanna Phillips, tenor Thomas Cooley, bass-baritone Michael Sumuel, and the Westminster Symphonic Choir, led by Joe Miller. The program also includes Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 in C Major, Op. 21.

On Saturday, October 14 at 2:00 p.m.,Orchestra of St. Luke's returns to Carnegie Hall as three fantastic family-friendly stories are brought to life through music. Prokofiev's classic Peter and the Wolf is performed alongside two new compositions: Caroline Shaw's adaptation of The Mountain That Loved a Bird byAlice McLerran, commissioned by Carnegie Hall, and Robert Xavier Rodriguez's take on a favorite children's book, The Dot and the Line by Norton Juster, author of The Phantom Tollbooth, with the author in attendance for the performance. Edwin Outwater conducts, and renowned actor John Lithgow narrates this special Family Concert in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage.

Carnegie Hall's community and family programs for September, October and November include Free Neighborhood Concerts, kicking off this fall with classical, American roots, and Argentine music in Manhattan; island swing in Brooklyn; big band and Broadway hits in Queens; and Puerto Rican rhythms in the Bronx. The series, now in its 42nd year, brings established mainstage artists as well as rising stars of jazz, pop, and world music to communities throughout New York City.
