Belarus Free Theatre makes its way to the United States in January, despite several police raids last month at underground performance spaces in the capital of Minsk. The raids came on the eve of the company bringing its newest political piece, Minsk, 2011: A Reply to Kathy Acker, to Chicago Shakespeare Theater January 30-February 3, 2013. To foster dialogue and encourage participation, all tickets for this six-performance limited engagement are $20. The piece, which explores the sexual brutality and oppression by the totalitarian regime in Belarus, is one of many award-winning productions by the company, celebrated for creating art based upon the unjustly persecuted people of Belarus.

This summer the Almeida Theatre annual festival hosts two innovative theatre companies whose work will encourage audiences to see the building in a new light. Over four weeks (6 - 31 July) the Almeida will present the unexpected as the theatre not only plays host to acclaimed companies but also puts the work of its Young Friends company centre-stage. In addition there will be an interactive installation, a photographic exhibition, panel discussions, workshops and a Street Party. The Festival will enable audiences to hear new and diverse theatre voices, bringing a fresh perspective to the Almeida's work.

The group will perform encore performances of BEING Harold Pinter and ZONE OF SILENCE, which were sold-out hits at this year's Under the Radar Festival, as well as the New York premiere of DISCOVER LOVE. The three shows will run in repertory for five weeks only through Sunday, May 15 at La MaMa (66 East 4th Street) with an official press opening on Monday, April 18.
