BIO

Nikki Castillo has appeared twice as a Little Who in How The Grinch Stole Christmas, as one of the Voices of the Underworld in Odyssey (The Old Globe) and as July in Annie (Moonlight Stage Productions). Other theatre credits include: Young Cosette in Les Misérables (California Youth Conservatory); Fox Child in Fantastic Mr. Fox, My Son Pinocchio, Seussical (San Diego Junior Theatre); Joseph, and Annie Jr. (Arts Off Broadway). This summer, she will be playing the title role in La Jolla Playhouse's The Nightingale.

Casts Announced for The Blank Theatre's 30th Annual Young Playwrights Festival

Casting has been announced for week one of The Blank Theatre’s 30th Annual Young Playwrights Festival. Being presented as digital shorts, the first three of 12 winning plays by young playwrights aged 15–19 will be available to stream on Vimeo July 8–14.

RENT to Play Holiday Engagement in San Diego!

The Award-winning California Youth Conservatory Theatre (CYC), well known for staging some of San Diego's most ambitious and successful youth theatre productions ever, will open a special holiday engagement of the brilliant and controversial hit musical RENT. Inspired by Puccini's La Bohemme, the modern-day rock opera tells the story of a collection of struggling artists and musicians trying to survive and practice their craft in the avant-garde neighborhood of New York's Lower East Side. This incredible production is being directed by CYC Artistic Director and long-time professional actor, Shaun T. Evans. Evans will also star in the show as "Collins."

Currently playing at the La Jolla Playhouse is The Nightingale, by the creative team behind the Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening: Steven Sater (book and lyrics) and Duncan Sheik (music). Directed by Tony Award nominee Moises Kaufman (33 Variations, I Am My Own Wife), the production runs July 10 - August 5, 2012 in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre. The theatre recently held an open discussion about the color-blind casting of the show, which has gotten attention amoungst the Asian-American community.
