They encounter a variety of fairytale characters whose wishes seem to come true by the end of Act One. Cinderella marries the prince, Jack's cow produces milk, and the baker and his wife now have a child...The consequences of their actions return to haunt them in Act Two with disastrous results as a giant enters the story and they try to unravel their now twisted fairytales. The musical won multiple Tony awards including Stephen Sondheim for best score and James Lapine for best book.
