2022 Minty Award Winners Announced
The Minty Organization celebrated its second decade at the historic St. George Theatre Sunday night, as over 800 students, faculty, families, friends and dignitaries were in attendance at the 11th Annual Minty Awards, Staten Island's revered answer to the Tony Awards for Catholic High School musical theater programs.
SI Museum Celebrates Centennial Of Women's Suffrage With New Exhibition
This March, to coincide with Women's History Month, the Staten Island Museum marks the centennial of the 19th Constitutional Amendment with a new exhibition, Women of the Nation Arise! Staten Islanders in the Fight for Women's Right to Vote. The exhibition will present the remarkable stories of local suffragists acting on the grassroots level to create the momentum necessary for regional and national change and the bold tactics they employed to win the vote.

NYC Parks, NYC Economic Development Corporation Seeking Ideas to Enhance Staten Island Beachfronts
NYC Parks and NYC Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), in partnership with the NYC Mayor's Office of Long-Term Planning & Sustainability (OLTPS), released on Friday a Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) for the reactivation of Staten Island's East and South Shores' public beachfronts and open spaces. In 2012, Hurricane Sandy devastated the shorefront and affected the economies of nearby commercial corridors and communities. This RFEI will seek proposals to help these impacted areas continue to recover and reemerge as destinations for residents and visitors by encouraging the submission of proposals for recreational activities, food and drink concessions, educational programs, and a host of additional possibilities.
Parks Breaks Ground at 2 Sites in Staten Island
Commissioner Adrian Benepe today joined Deputy Borough President Ed Burke, Mark Russo of Friends of Abandoned Ceremonies, and Janice Blanchard of the Travis Fourth of July Parade Committee to break ground on a $1.2-million construction project at Independence Park in the Travis community of Staten Island. Later in the day, Commissioner Benepe broke ground on a $2.5-million project to construct a synthetic turf playing field and tot lot at New Dorp Beach. He was joined by Borough President James Molinaro, Council Member Vincent Ignizio, Assemblywoman Elect Nicole Malliotakis, and Congressman Elect Michael Grimm to celebrate the new field.
