BWW Review: THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG at the Ahmanson Theatre
by Don Grigware - Jul 11, 2019
No one carries off a farce better than the Brits. It seems like they invented it just as we Americans invented the musical. Mischief Theatre first presented The Play That Goes Wrong in 2015 and then it came to Broadway in 2017. Now it is on tour, currently onstage at the Ahmanson until August 11. I cannot think of a better word to describe it than INSANITY. Most farces have slamming doors, pratfalls galore, double entendres, and mistaken identities. But when the slapstick turns into entire sets collapsing, as well as actors moving about helter skelter in nonstop fashion? The Play That Goes Wrong is unlike any other farce you may have seen. To say you will laugh uproarisouly is an understatement. Naturally, it will appeal to all actors and theatre lovers who know that live, anything can happen onstage. The Play That Goes Wrong carries it to the furthest extreme.

BWW Review: THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG at The Majestic Theatre San Antonio
by Ashley Corbaley - Jun 20, 2019
When things go wrong they go right for the National Tour of THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG, now playing at the Majestic Theatre San Antonio. A play within a play, things go from bad to worse onstage and offstage in all the most creative and wonderful of ways. As a result, an evening of hilarity ensues filling the theater with continuous roars of laughter. From breaking props to breaking character, this sensationally popular hit proves just how far actors will take the phrase: “The show must go on!”
BWW Review: THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG at Winspear Opera House
by Jared West - Jun 19, 2019
Anything that can go wrong will go wrong, as the infamous Murphy is so often quoted. In THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG, just closed at the Winspear Opera House, nothing could be truer - and you will never laugh so hard because of it.

BWW Review: THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG Gets Classic Comedy Just Right
by Cybele Pomeroy - Jun 8, 2019
THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG is a farce about a whodunnit that keeps going in spite of itself. It begins at 'funny,' blazes past 'hilarious' and 'side-splitting' straight to 'uproarious,' then ramps it up in Act II. The award-winning script includes slapstick, repetition, mispronunciation, callbacks, prop comedy, crowding, unexpected entrances, pantomime, reversals, costume malfunctions, role switching, overacting, inappropriateness and an astonishing number and variety of spit-takes. The eight cast members are in every way awe-inspiring and terrific. Get it right and go to THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG. Being left out of the fun would be an awful shame.
