Nathan A. Lilly, a Cleveland native, appeared in the regional premieres of Paula Vogel’s A Civil War Christmas (Decatur Bronson), Tonya Barfield's The Call (Alemu), as well as Tony Kushner and Jeanine Tesori’s Caroline Or Change, all at Cleveland's Dobama Theatre. WORLD PREMIERES: Eric Coble’s Ten More Minutes From Cleveland (Dobama Theatre), Eric Schmiedl’s Browns Rules (Cleveland Public Theatre); Nina Domingue’s Jack & Jill’s Super Colossal Storybook Adventure (Cleveland Play House); and Eric Coble’s Let Freedom Ring (Ensemble Theatre/Musical Theatre Project). REGIONAL: Kennedy Center for Performing Arts TYA/USA, Great Lakes Theater, Porthouse Theatre, and Cain Park, Beck Center for the Arts, The Karamu House Theatre. Pulitzer Prize winner Paula Vogel is noted for crafting play scripts which impact directly on the lives of people. A review of her works illustrates that she writes about issues that need to be expressed (AIDS, sexual abuse, prostitution, degradation of the individual), she favors writing about emotional circumstances which she expresses in narrative structures, and her works contain theatrical requirements that make for better viewing, than reading.
