It was all about brilliant melody, harmony, rhythms, and profound lyrics last night as the songwriters Marcy Heisler and Zina Goodrich celebrated over a quarter-century of romantic comedy writing with a one-night all original show. As in all of their highly entertaining musical adventures, Marcy & Zina brought along some of their super talented and famous friends. Lots of great new songs in this show, but of course some of their classics were included, although I had to settle for a regular coffee and not one from the Latte Boy.

The Ogunquit Playhouse is delighted to announce the casting of John Bolton in the role of Dr. Frederick Frankenstein in this summer's production of Mel Brooks' hysterical musical comedy Young Frankenstein, on stage July 10 through July 27. Mr. Bolton takes the lead in this wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Frankenstein legend, based on Mel Brooks' film masterpiece, as he attempts to bring a corpse to life with plenty of scary and hilarious complications. It went on to win a record 12 Tony Awards, and solidified his role as someone to be reckoned with in the genre. 6 years later, arguably his best, funniest and most popular movie YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN was transformed into a musical on the Great White Way. And if you are lucky enough to see the Ogunquit Playhouse's amazing production of YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, you'll wonder why the Broadway production ever closed.

Eye-popping special effects and show stopping musical numbers, including 'Puttin' on the Ritz' complete with tap dancing monsters, round out this monstrously fun show.

For her October shows the title should have been Jamie deRoy & her very talented Songwriter friends. Jamie, as she always does, interacts with her guest artists in a way that stimulates them to give performances that are unique and hugely entertaining. As William Finn (who appeared in a prior Jamie deRoy & Friends) remarked, 'Jamie's interview of me was the best I've ever had'. The show was directed by Jamie's extremely creative friend Barry Kleinbort who also displayed his wonderful performance abilities. Music Director was Shelly Markham.

This performance marked the 10th time the writing duo has performed at the historic music room! Joined by Scott Coulter, Jill Abramovitz, Clinton Kelly, Nathan Klau and Jonathan Root, Marcy and Zina offered an hour-long collection of songs, plus a sneak peek at some of their upcoming theatrical projects including 'Freakin' Fabulous'.
