Taproot Theatre Begins BACH AT LEIPZIG, 5/17

With shows like American Idol, The Voice and America's Got Talent all the rage, Taproot Theatre brings the original 18th century reality show to the stage as Itamar Moses' Bach at Leipzig opens on May 17. Imagine, Leipzig, 1722. Germany's most renowned music director is dead at the keyboard. As the country's greatest organists descend to vie for the job, melodies of rivalry, trickery and blackmail compose a fugue of plots and counterplots. Rooted in history but reveling in flights of fiction, Bach at Leipzig is deliciously scored with wild and witty revelations. BWW Reviews: TARTUFFE at Taproot Theatre

A con-man who expounds on his own piety only to eventually be discovered as the most unscrupulous hypocrite of them all. No this is not the latest Senatorial scandal from Washington DC, but the season opener for Taproot Theatre as they present Moliere's comedy in verse, "Tartuffe". And while at times I felt they went a little too broad with the characters and lacked focus, they still managed to turn in a raucous evening.

Moliere's comic masterpiece brings us a con artist extraordinaire who oozes piety and charm. Will Tartuffe's hypocrisy be discovered before Orgon's household is turned on its head? Enjoy lightning-quick wit, star-crossed lovers, a badgering grandma and a plot that could be ripped from today's headlines - or a Saturday night comedy show. Associate Artistic Director Karen Lund directs Tartuffe which opens tonight and runs through March 3.

Taproot Theatre Company Looks Back At Successes, Trails Of The Season

As Taproot Theatre Company celebrates the successful opening of Brooklyn Boy in its Greenwood playhouse, it looks back at a year of successes, trials and records in 2009. From its work on the Mainstage and Acting Studio to the shows it took on the road to schools across the Pacific Northwest, the year marked a memorable time in Taproot Theatre's history, and one packed with thanksgiving. Though the year drew near to a close with an arson next door that caused extensive damage to the theatre, Taproot exhibited grace in difficulty and moved forward without missing a beat. Here are some of the highlights of 2009.
