Joseph Lorenzo Wise Releases “We Shall Overcome” For Black History Month
by Stephi Wild - Feb 4, 2018
Joseph Lorenzo Wise has released 'We Shall Overcome' for Black History Month. 'I never thought I would be releasing 'We Shall Overcome', as a record, but the response to the song has been overwhelming. These turbulent times have brought back the Civil Rights Anthem in a big way. Having grown up in Atlanta, Georgia during the height of the Civil Rights Movement, the song was sung all over the place, even just around the house as we hoped for a better brighter tomorrow. Then Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated, and the song took on an even more powerful meaning as we sang it to mourn the loss of a great leader. I still remember Mahalia Jackson singing 'We Shall Overcome' to the crowd of fired up civil rights activists', Wise says.
