Playwrights' Arena Announces 2019 Season
Playwrights' Arena, the first and oldest theater dedicated to discovering, nurturing, and producing original works written exclusively by Los Angeles playwrights, will present three World Premieres during its 2019 Season: SOUTHERNMOST by Mary Lyon Kamitaki, THE END OF BEAUTY by Cory Hinkle and LIKE/SHARE by Janine Salinas Schoenberg.
QUEEN SUGAR Season Three Debuts with Two-Night Premiere Event 5/29 and 5/30 on OWN
'Queen Sugar,' the critically acclaimed drama series from Academy award-nominated filmmaker Ava DuVernay ('A Wrinkle in Time,' '13th,' 'Selma'), executive producer Oprah Winfrey and Warner Horizon Scripted Television, returns for its third season with a two-night premiere event on OWN Tuesday, May 29, and Wednesday, May 30 (10 p.m. ET/PT each night). The series will regularly air Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Continuing a creative initiative established in the show's first season, series creator/executive producer DuVernay has once again assembled an all-female directing team for the third consecutive season. Season 3 directors include DeMane Davis, Patricia Cardoso, Shaz Bennett, Maria Govan and Lauren Wolkstein, several of whom will be making their television directorial debut, with additional names to be announced.

New York Women in Film & Television has announced the honorees for this year's Muse Awards on December 14th: Laura Dern (actor), Judith Light (actor) and Amy Emmerich (Refinery29 CCO); Regina K. Scully (filmmaker and CEO of Artemis Rising Foundation) will receive the Loreen Arbus Changemaker Award; and the inaugural Nancy Malone Directing Award will be presented to groundbreaking filmmaker Julie Dash.

Produced and written by David Rambo and directed by Luke Yankee, the event featured the only approved live TONY Award feed direct from New York to California, allowing guests of the Actors Fund to view the awards before the rest of West Coast viewed the delayed broadcast.

An ambitious 'song collector,' for the Library of Congress, Susannah Mullally (Nancy Malone), is searching for undiscovered folk music with African-American roots in the prisons of Texas. Her best hope may be found in Alberta 'Pearl' Johnson (Donna Thornton), who has been imprisoned for 10 years for killing a man.
