Preview Screening Of COLLEGE BEHIND BARS Announced At Bay Street Theater

a??a??a??a??a??a??a??The Bay Street Theater has announced it will hold a special preview screening of COLLEGE BEHIND BARS, the new documentary series directed by Alfred I. duPont-Columbia and Peabody-Award winning filmmaker Lynn Novick (THE VIETNAM WAR, PROHIBITION, FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT, THE WAR). The four-hour series directed and produced by Novick and produced by longtime collaborator Sarah Botstein (THE VIETNAM WAR, PROHIBITION, THE WAR, JAZZ) revealing the transformative power of higher education through the experiences of incarcerated men and women, will air on PBS on Monday, November 25 and Tuesday, November 26 at 9 p.m. ET. The preview screening followed by a talk back with director Lynn Novick and BPI alums Dyjuan Tatro & Sebastian Yoon will take place at Bay Street Theater on Friday, August 23 at 4:30 pm. Tickets are available online at baystreet.org or by a suggested donation of $20 at the door.

Tribeca Film Festival Announces 2019 Short Film Lineup

The 18th annual Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, today announced its 2019 lineup of 63 diverse and engaging short films in competition, including 31 world premieres. This year's shorts program includes a cross-section of international and U.S. filmmakers, curated from a record 5131 submissions with female filmmakers directing 45% of the selections. The short films will be presented in 11 distinct competition programs, consisting of six narrative, four documentary, and one animation program. There will also be special screening programs for the annual Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival and the debut of shorts from The Queen Collective, a program aimed at accelerating gender and racial equality behind the camera. The 2019 shorts lineup is programmed by Sharon Badal and Ben Thompson. The 2019 Tribeca Film Festival takes place April 24 - May 5.

The Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP), the nation's premier member organization of independent storytellers, announced today the nominees for the 28th Annual IFP Gotham Awards. Ten competitive awards will be presented to independent features and series. In addition to the competitive awards, Gotham Tributes will be given to actors Rachel Weisz and Willem Dafoe, director Paul Greengrass, and the Gotham Industry Tribute to Jon Kamen.
