A vision nearly 20 years in the making, The Smith Center for the Performing Arts reaches a significant milestone in March 2022 with the celebration of its 10-year anniversary. After just a decade, The Smith Center has firmly ensconced itself as Southern Nevada's Heart of the Arts, a true cultural hub where community members from all walks of life can gather to enjoy high-caliber performances.

The producers of the new musical AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN, announced today that the world premiere will take place in Las Vegas at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts on October 26-31, 2021 followed by a multi-season tour that will visit more than 50 cities in the 2021-2022 season.

The Musical at 11 a.m. on Nov. 30. To make live theater more accessible for all community members, this performance will be specially designed for audience members with sensory sensitivities and other intellectual and developmental disabilities. Accommodations include the reduction of jarring noises and lights throughout the performance and providing designated quiet areas in the lobby for audience members to take breaks as needed.

In an effort to celebrate all talents involved with high school theater productions, The Smith Center for the Performing Arts will present a significantly expanded awards program for its seventh annual Nevada High School Musical Theater Awards at 2 p.m. on May 12 in its Reynolds Hall. With community members encouraged to attend, the event will showcase even more musical theater performances than years past and offer several new awards categories.

Developed by Disney Theatrical Productions, the Disney Musicals in Schools initiative is used to create sustainable theater programs in under-resourced elementary schools.
