The League of Composers Set for NY Philharmonic Biennial
The League of Composers/ISCM - the nation's oldest organization devoted to contemporary music - joins the NY PHIL BIENNIAL to present the Orchestra of the League of Composers performing a New York Premiere by Huck Hodge (United States, b. 1977), a U.S. Premiere by Felipe Lara (Brazil, b. 1979), and works by Pulitzer Prize-winning composers Charles Wuorinen (United States, b. 1938) and Paul Moravec (United States, b. 1957). Taking place at Columbia University's Miller Theatre on Wednesday, June 1st at 7:30pm, the program will be conducted by Louis Karchin, Music Director of the Orchestra of the League of Composers. Charles Wuorinen will conduct his own work with pianist Anne-Marie McDermott as soloist.

The League of Composers/ISCM presents The Orchestra of the League of Composers' Season Finale concert tonight, June 11th at 8pm at Miller Theater. Featured on this program will be the world premiere of a commissioned work, A League of Notions, by Morris Rosenzweig and the U.S. premiere of Kaija Saariaho's Leino Songs, her 2008 settings of Eino Leino's poetry, with soprano Heather Buck as soloist.

The themed two-year series, Beyond the Pale, includes staged productions, one-time events, concerts, installations, panel discussions, and a reading series of new translations.
Utah Composers to Reveal New Works with Skyros & Battery String Quartets at Deer Valley Music Fest
Each summer the Muir String Quartet collaborates with Joan Tower to offer two emerging, semi-professional string quartets and two promising composers an opportunity for extended professional development during the Deer Valley Music Festival. Because of the high quality of these performances the past ten years, Utah Symphony | Utah Opera will include the final performance of the three-week Emerging Quartets and Composers Program in its mainstream lineup of Deer Valley Music Festival Chamber Ensemble Series this summer.
