New York Jazz Maverick Johnny Butler Announces Third Album 'The Sunbather'
The follow-up to 2020’s ‘Thirteen Dances’, the NYC saxophonist, technologist, dancer and composer will release a new album. Comprising 11 songs of his pioneering brand of cosmic jazz, Butler delivers a concept album of maverick instrumentals tied together by a cryptic central protagonist known only as ‘The Sunbather’. Spark Movement Collective Celebrates First Decade With TEN
Dance company Spark Movement Collective celebrates their 10th anniversary season this fall with the premiere of TEN. Artistic Director Chelsea Koenig has created TEN to celebrate Spark's first decade of making dance for all audiences with greatest hits from the company's repertoire and three new works choreographed by current company dancers Melissa Galano, Kristen Santos, and Michelle Thompson Ulerich. An evening of eclectic contemporary dance, TEN also includes selected pieces from Spark's 2018 original dance interpretation of 1984, as well as an excerpt from Alice in Wonderland, one of Spark's reimaginings of classic tales for family audiences.

Norte Maar, a committed Brooklyn-based think-tank dedicated to the creation, promotion, and presentation of collaborations in the visual, literary, and the performing arts, presents the seventh season of Counterpointe, a curated performance series of new choreographic works by female artists and the pointe shoe. Six women choreographers have been paired with six NY metro-based female visual artists to collaborate and create both a new physical and visual work by each while investigating the process of creation, inspiration and development. Presented in partnership with Brooklyn Ballet, the annual series will be presented April 26-28 at The Mark O'Donnell Theater at the Actors Fund Arts Center in downtown Brooklyn.

Juan Porter's THE SERIES Runs 6/6-11 at the Hudson Guild Theater
Curated by Juan Michael Porter II, THE SERIES 2017 presents a versatile range of artistically provocative choreographers in contrasting programs of dance. At each performance, one or two of the 12 guest companies will share the program with Michael Mao Dance in a set of works that run the gamut from social dance to jazz to contemporary ballet to abstract pieces marked by their German Expressionistic values. The common thread running through each company featured in THE SERIES is the use of spectacular physical virtuosity to communicate fantastic ideas, June 6-11 at the Hudson Guild Theatre, 441 West 26th Street.
