Shirley Ritenour Returns to Manhattan Cabaret with AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER
Shirley Ritenour returns to the New York cabaret scene this fall with a new show, An Affair to Remember. The October 19th and October 26th performances at Don't Tell Mama will benefit Gilda's Club, NYC and Stony Brook Cancer Research Center through Concerned Women of the Grove. Ritenour will sing a Great American Songbook and pop repertoire, including music from Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen, David Friedman, Sammy Cahn and Judy Collins to name a few, along with a sweet tribute to Debbie Reynolds. People who know Ritenour from her operatic roles won't be left out she will perform an aria as well. The show is directed by Scott Barnes with Musical Director, Brian Holman. Shows are at 7pm. The comics given the job of making the Friars laugh last night were not fooling around and the club rocked with laughter. The stand up comedy of MC Dave Konig, George Vanarthos, Michelle Tod, Nancy Lombardo, Michele Balan, Maria Schultz, Ross Bennett and producer Cory Kahaney were well received by members who have been well trained in the art of laughing by fellow Friars. Ross Bennett, recently a smash on David Letterman was especially effective. The intimate setting of the club's Milton Berle Room has been the scene of many fun filled evenings, and numerous comics have launched their careers in the mahogany walled space.

Due to recent health issues, Freddie Roman was unable to perform in the Friars Club Comedy Festival which he curated for the Mahaiwe and had planned to host. The show went on in Freddie's honor, with his long-time friend Stewie Stone, the Prior of the Friars, stepping in as host and with Freddies favorite, on-the-rise stand-up comics carrying on the Catskills comedy tradition.
