Talawa, the UK’s outstanding Black theatre company, is holding an evening of celebration in honour of its late co-founder Mona Hammond OBE (1931–2022). As one of the founders of Talawa Theatre Company in 1986, Hammond was instrumental in championing Black British theatre and her passion and vision was fundamental to the company’s work.

The complexity of mounting a show which requires such specialist dancing skills cannot be understated. With Ballroom Dancing mainly relegated these days to the tele and specialist competitions, a reviewer on the drive up to the theatre, may be forgiven for querying whether a community theatre group could successfully pull this off?

BWW Review: JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOUR DREAMCOAT at Spotlight Theatre, Paptoetoe, Auckland
Visually this show is spectacular thanks to super talented costume designers Helen Chessum. My particular favourites were Potiphar's scene with it's truly striking black and white theme and all the Pharoah scenes where the attention to detail ensured the wow factor- collars, wigs, sparkly shoes and even a fully bedazzled Elvis cape. Marty Wilson's attention to detail in his hair and make-up design was highlighted for me by the blue stripes in Pharoah's hair which matched his Egyptian eyeshadow.

This popular tradition returns for one night only at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 30, as the primary annual benefit for The Denver Actors Fund, which to date has made more than $385,000 in medical relief available to the Colorado theatre community. BWW Review: THE GREAT GATSBY at ZAO THEATRE is a Spectacular Show 'Old Sport'
It takes a lot more than the actors' performance to make a great show. Along with the acting, a spectacular set and visuals, Lighting and sound, and staying true to the material are cogs that set one well-oiled machine of a show apart from the others. Zao theatres production of The Great Gatsby is almost a textbook-like example of how to fit your cogs together to create one solid show.

First produced at the Lincoln Center Theater in 2005, the play is set at an elite, New England liberal arts college in November 2002 and focuses on college professor Laurie Jameson (played by Mary Claire Klooster), who accuses one of her students-an outwardly preppy jock nicknamed 'Third' (Michael Sanders) -- of plagiarism, and upends her own life in the process. The play will be directed by Zip Rampy.
