BWW Reviews: Henson Alternative's PUPPET UP! UNCENSORED a Dandy Adult Treat
As part of their annual Summer at the Playhouse series in July, which this year also included Joey Luft and Mary Bridget Davies, Pasadena Playhouse hosted Henson Alternative's Puppet Up! Uncensored for 3 nights only. Music, Mayhem, Madness was promised and certainly delivered with six puppeteers, comic host Patrick Bristow - and at least 50 puppets centerstage. The show is audience friendly; in fact, in a couple of scenarios, audience members are invited on stage to participate in what appears to be a spontaneously imagined set.
The Production Company Premieres THE BLUR Reading on 1/26
The Production Company's Artistic Directors August Viverito and T L Kolman proudly announce the inauguration of the company's new "Radio Style" play reading series and the christening of our new studio-space dubbed The Production Company Workspace with the world premiere of "The Blur" by Dean Farrell Briggeman.
The decision to have a baby or not is a very personal (and sometimes painful) one. After 15 years of marriage, Tanner & Beth have come to a crossroads at which there is no compromise: one of them feels a desperate need to procreate and the other refuses. Meanwhile, Beth's brother Christopher & his husband Carl eagerly prepare for the births of their biological twins via surrogacy. How are we changed when we bring children into the world, when we embrace that reality and responsibility? And what are the repercussions of skipping parenthood, either willfully or reluctantly?
Photo Coverage: PUPPET UP! UNCENSORED Comes to Toronto
But don't go into PUPPET UP expecting to see Kermit and the Gang, this show features none of those Muppets, and instead showcases a group of more 'adult' Puppets who engage directly with the audience, using suggestions from current events and experiences to entertain guests with a unique blend of puppetry, comedy, improvisation and a little dirty fun.
The show features a cast of six world-class puppeteers (including Jim Henson's son, Brian) and is suggested for adult audiences only. So you've been warned - no rainbow connection here! Just lots of laughs, some dirty jokes and some incredible puppets.
