Michael Hillyer was an Associate Director at the 29th Street Rep (Buffalo Kill, Coyote Ugly, Common Ground, Single & Proud), Blue Heron Arts Center (O’Neill, Twelfth Night, As You Like It) and the Wings Theatre Company (Stars and Stripes, Great American Backstage Musical, The Poodle Sisters), and has also directed in New York at Playhouse 91 (The Grand Guignol), Theatre For The New City(Success and Succession), the William Redfield Theatre, the Douglas Fairbanks Theatre, the Nat Horne Theatre and the Irish Arts Center (Space Bitch). His long-running Off-Off Broadway musical at the American Renaissance Theatre, Slasher, The Splatter Rock Musical, was revived Off-Broadway at the Perry Street Theatre, and he has directed elsewhere at the John Drew Theatre, Millbrook Summer Playhouse, Thomaston Opera House, the Palace Theatres in Stamford, CT (The Boy Who Cried Elvis) and Manchester, NH (Shenandoah, Man Of La Mancha), as well as at Cornell, Columbia and Seton Hall Universities. Michael was a long-time member of SDC, and is a member of American Theatre Critics (ATC): he has written articles about the New York theatre scene for Backstage and The Village Voice, and has been a staff writer and critic for New York Theatre Guide and the Front Row Center since 2013. Michael holds an MFA degree in Directing from Cornell University, and currently resides in Sarasota.
